GreenField Compression, Inc. has deep roots in high pressure compression systems and alternative
fuels. The company, known as Henderson International Technologies, Inc. until 2001, was established in 1958 as an oil and gas company and moved into the current Richardson, TX
site in 1976 where it began serving the needs of the international Industrial Gases (IG) market. Gradually, Henderson's specialty in products and services for the industrial gas markets made
it a leader in several high pressure and cryogenic technologies. Following the acquisition of the company in 1996 by Sulzer, the Swiss industrial giant, the company began to
manufacture the high pressure NGV fueling systems which Sulzer introduced to North America in 1993. Simultaneously, the complimentary high pressure compression technology of
Sulzer Burckhardt
was introduced, making the company the unrivalled North American leader in high pressure compressors and NGV fueling systems. The heritage of Sulzer Burckhardt high pressure compression technology began in 1891 with the first high pressure compressor. As early as 1914, Burckhardt was building successful natural gas vehicle fueling systems.
Through the full exploitation of technologies from both Henderson and Sulzer Burckhardt, GreenField is in an
excellent position to improve and expand its offerings to provide a wider range of products and services to both the NGV and IG markets.
In 1998, to improve the quality of its products and to accommodate the needs of the rapidly growing NGV
segment, the company’s facilities at the Richardson, Texas location were expanded. The fully modern manufacturing shop added significant capacity to the present 26,000 sq ft factory
area. Further investments followed to upgrade other manufacturing and test processes. Our test department is able to test all products under full load, full pressure conditions to
simulate all possible operating conditions and functions.
As part of a revised global strategy, Sulzer sold the GreenField Group in September 2001. Headquartered
in Pratteln, Switzerland, GreenField AG, the Group leader was purchased by private investors led by the investment bank NORD Holding GmbH of Hanover, Germany. Through the
support of NORD Holding, the Group and its subsidiaries continues to grow, especially in the rapidly developing NGV fueling systems markets around the world.
